Today I am thrilled to be able to share with you the best breastfeeding book I have ever read. Laura Keegan’s Breastfeeding with Comfort and Joy is hands down the best visual guide I have seen on breastfeeding online or in book format….and I’ve seen a lot.

If you have been with us a while you might remember my post on my recommendations for getting rid of breastfeeding thrush. I had such a hard time nursing Noah that it was literally 4 1/2 months of crying through almost every nursing sessions and finally weaning him at 6 months. I poured over dozens of books and hundreds of websites trying to figure out what was wrong. When it finally turned out to be a super resistant case of thrush and we were able to work through that, nursing got manageable but it was never a joy.

So when I found out I was pregnant again this time, my midwife Natalie recommended that I get a copy of Breastfeeding with Comfort and Joy to study before the birth. I wrote Laura an email to see if we might be able to get a copy and have been so grateful to work with her.

This book is like having an experienced mom sit there with you and show you exactly what a good latch should look like because its REAL photos not diagrams. The photos are clear and up close in the teaching section and yet the book is also a celebration of how incredibly beautiful breastfeeding is. After such a rough experience with Noah it was a good reminder that this really is a wonderful thing and how bonding it should be.

I have already gotten this book for my best friend who recently had her first baby and have been enthusiastically shoving it in front of every one of my single and newly married friends who has come to meet Phin. If I had just known what I was supposed to be doing from the get go with Noah it’s highly possible we could have avoided so much of the pain and problems that we had.

With this book and Natalie’s coaching we have had a wonderful month of nursing. We are unfortunately battling with a very mild case of thrush this time around too but because we know how to manage it and have a proper latch we are worlds ahead of where we could be.

I can honestly say that this book revolutionized nursing for us and I highly recommend it to every nursing mom and as a resource to those who help moms.

I am so grateful that Laura took the time to write this book and to work with us!
