Friends. It’s time to admit defeat. Fall is here.

Though you wouldn’t know it from the glorious indian summer breezes that have been wafting through our windows this week. Heaven I tell you.

What else is heaven? Eggnog. Eggnog in all its delicious betraying Christmas-is-coming self. Pah! Don’t mention that word to me yet. Everywhere you look everyone is jumping ship on the current season to fall in love with the one that hasn’t even arrived yet. Though I have to admit I am a teensy bit excited for Christmas because I really can’t wait to perfect a super soft fluffy gingerbread for you guys. Not a cookie…a real cake like gingerbread. Mmm. Bring on the chilly weather.

This morning was all kinds of goodness as it was pleasantly chilly. Which is the perfect excuse for my super awesome puffy booties (<—not an affiliate link) to make their way out of my closet. Think mummy bags around your feet meets cozy slippers. Kevin bought them for me years ago because I whiiiiine terribly when my feet are cold.

Let’s talk french toast though already? These are actually *relatively* healthy for you. At an egg per slice you’ve got a nice chunk of protein and we are using thick hearty multi grain bread.

If you can find it make this with Ezekiel bread if you want even more healthy protein packed goodness (we had already managed to eat it all by the time I got to photos). It’s hands down one of our favorite ways to eat Ezekiel bread. Soak it up with eggs and spices and it’s literally the best french toast you’ve ever eaten.

Eggnog takes this version to a whole new level, but its not exactly what I would title “healthy”. It’s also expensive right?

So instead of drowning the poor things in it we sneak in just a 1/3 cup of eggnog and bump up the vanilla and spices to boost that eggnog flavor while still fitting into our “kinda skinny” jeans. Because lets be honest…..the “skinny skinny” jeans just ain’t worth it if you can’t have a little of this in your life.

Also….please please….use real maple syrup and leave the corn syrup junk at the store. You’re worth it.

  1. Made this french toast this morning, but substituted with buttermilk and challah bread, since I don’t have eggnog and challah bread was left over. It was fantastic!!! Quick and easy! My family loved it! Thanks for the recipe!

    • Thanks for the comment Heather!!

That sounds awesome! Have you checked out our challah recipe? We love doing french toast with it too! I have a blueberry challah recipe I’ve been tossing around and I think it would make a perfect french toast and bread pudding. Yum!

  6. I call this “healthy-ish”. 🙂 But I can’t believe you went there with eggnog … and it’s only October!! You’re a braver soul than I.

    • Oh totally Julianne 😉 Like I said it’s “relatively” healthy. Far superior than the normal white bread, bit of egg and mostly milk liquid to dunk in. But still….all in moderation 😉
