Kitchen Sprucing

We are in full on “sprucing” mode.

Kevin doesn’t like calling what we are doing “remodeling”….he says it feels too dramatic and permanent. So we call it sprucing.

The kitchen is getting close. So close to being done.

Granted nobody else can see that except me because it doesn’t look anywhere near to being close. Right now it looks like its been ripped apart and that we are hillbillies.

But almost all the parts are in place for this spiffiness to ensue. WordPress doesn’t think spiffiness is a word. Well…it is. So there.

Here’s some peeks at what is going in the house:

Flooring:

Isn’t it pretty?!?

I never thought I could be so excited about peel and stick vinyl floor tiles. But this girl is stoked for a floor let me tell you.

And the price is pretty stinking awesome. 25 cents a square foot. Um yes please.

Dishwasher:

That might not look like much but that beauty right there cost me a pretty $25 off Craigslist. For the momma who has had no dishwasher in well over a year this = Total Score.

Convincing husband that installing dishwasher is a good okay super awesomely sweet thing to do for his wifey= God….and Doug Peck (thanks Doug!)

Backsplash:

Oh how I love this! So much it makes me grin like an idiot every time I go into the backroom to show yet another person my stacks of tile and flooring.

Also pretty exciting because this tile only a little thicker is selling at Home Depot for $6.98 a square foot (ours was last years at $4.98) and we got it on clearance for $2.97 and then it dropped two days later to wait for it….$1.23 a square foot. Yes yes yes!

And yes I ran around like a crazy person filling my cart up with all the tile they had left and the other color which will be going around our fireplace.

Countertops:

We are totally stalled out on the countertop issue.

We were going to do a DIY plywood countertop (which I was super excited to try) but after Doug came over and saw all our work he said we should definitely just go with laminate countertop. He even chipped in some $ to help us get one (we seriously have THE nicest friends!)!

Ikea is looking like the winner so far with their Pragel countertops which will run us around $140 plus tax.

But we have to drive there to get them….which is about 70 miles one way.  And we are in a pickle with how to get them in a vehicle and have Noah with us…..

And they only come in 3 colors….white, black, or quartz looking. We both agree quartz is what we would lean towards but the picture online makes it look like paint spackled colors.

Our other option is Home Depot coming in at $250-325 (we can’t get them to difinitively give us a price and the real countertop lady isn’t in til tomorrow)

Update: Some farming friends’s bees swarmed and we are going up to help them setup a new hive and get a beekeeping lesson today so we are going to go check out Ikea most likely. I think we could get the countertops in the back of the car if we bungee cord the back door closed…..we will see how that goes ;)

I’ve been working on projects all week so look for a big picture update on Monday AND the Cook’n Giveaway! See you guys soon!

The two of you really do have your hands going in so many different directions! Hope you will have an OPEN House to show off everything once it is completed! Good going! And a “woman after my own heart”….bargain shopper! Congrats on making the house your HOME!

    • Oh don’t you worry Charlotte! We WILL!

We are working super hard to get everything livable so we can get out of the living room and have people over for community dinners! Check out Brood Brewery on Facebook….they are our inspiration for the dinners (friends of ours from Bend) :)

And I loves me a good deal! Just found a $40 mirror at Home Depot for $10 bucks! Gotta love that.
