Day Before Payday Spaghetti and “Meatballs”

I mentioned recently that last month we had to streeeeeeetch our food budget quite a bit due to some mismanagement and having an extra week hold over to get our food money. As such there was some definite creative cooking and I wanted to share with you probably my most impressive there's nothing in the cupboard recipe. We had a couple friends coming over too so I was sweating it just a smidge hoping these turned out okay haha. Basically what I did was make them while taking precarious … [Read more...]

How to Tile A Glass Mosaic Backsplash Over Paneling

In a last minute somewhat rash decision making process I decided to turn our glass mosaic backsplash project upside down. Or rather sideways down. Err. Whatever. I flipped our backsplash tiles vertically last minute and am totally loving it. After removing the paneling, and converting a single outlet to a double outlet, Kevin tackled getting all the cement board installed. He used a scoring knife we picked up from Home Depot and our jigsaw to cut the board and we used the special green … [Read more...]

Entertaining While Remodeling

We absolutely love entertaining! But, the entire time we have lived here we have been under major reconstruction. This fact would leave many of you to assume that we don't do much entertaining here. Nope. It's not true. Even with ceilings ripped up, no flooring and a single room available to hang out in for months and months, we have always entertained. We had big dinners with friends when our living room was our bedroom, and practically our whole church over for a surprise party for a … [Read more...]

How To Wire a Double Plug

This week we are jumping head first into our kitchen backsplash project. But before we could get too excited about getting started we had to convert our single outlet to a double outlet. Our only outlet above the kitchen countertop is tucked just behind the stove. With the addition of our dishwasher which requires the use of a plug pretty much 24/7 we were limited to a single plug to run appliances off of. So since we had already taken the paneling off  we decided it would be a quick upgrade … [Read more...]

Deal Finders: Pendant Track Lighting

The other day while I was at Home Depot tackling my most recent highly neglected project (putting Noah's crib together) I become completely distracted with a hair brained idea that had been stewing in my mind for a few weeks.Worst run on sentence ever right there.I got lost in the track lighting department. It's true, I am smitten with track lighting...but not the stuff you are probably thinking of. When someone says track lighting to me the first thing that comes to mind are these ugly … [Read more...]

Ladies and Gentleman We Have a Living Room!

AAAaaaaa!! It's true! We have a real live living room with a floor! Can you believe it?!? The couch is finally actually sitting in the living room. It's kind of shocking actually. It is really quite amazing to be sitting in a chair and laying on a couch in a living room that is for all true purposes…..finished. It needs art and definitely needs some curtains but I just couldn't wait to show it to you guys. If you need a refresher of where we started check out … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Pie Brioche Doughnuts

It might be a little ironic to make the least healthy bread in Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day but it's true....that's what I did.  Well maybe not the most unhealthy.....I mean come on this bread has whole wheat flour AND pumpkin in it so it's totally healthy. Disregard the fact that I fried them and then covered them in powdered sugar, cream cheese glaze, and cinnamon and sugar. Totally not important right now. The important thing is to get a bunch of friends and eat these as soon … [Read more...]

Sweet Mascarpone Peach Tart

Last week was our 4 year anniversary....four years! It's funny how time is, it seems like just yesterday we were dancing under a crazy orange sky and yet like a dozen years as well when I think about how much we have done and seen in those 4 years. It's interesting to think about the fact that while most of my friends went off to get 4 year degrees I instead took the 4 year degree in marriage and motherhood. I often wonder what it would be like to have had some of my friends experiences, the … [Read more...]

What To Do To Lose Weight: One Shrinking Mom’s Thoughts

When we start talking about what to do to lose weight its so much more than just what you need to do. While what you do or don't do is important, what happens behind the scenes is the most important of all. Today I would like to share with you some things I have learned in this journey towards losing weight. But I have to be truthful in saying this is probably one of the hardest posts I have ever written. Why? Because it's one area where no matter how thin you are you never feel like you … [Read more...]

Roasted Tomato Sausage Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons

When I saw this recipe on Pinterest I just couldn't resist making it. I have been working towards making a tomato soup that Kevin enjoys our whole marriage and finally achieved something worthy to share. Kevin and I share a very split opinion on tomato soup. Me? I could probably live a substantial amount of time quite happily just eating tomato soup and grilled cheese. It's almost a punishment to Kevin. His primary complaint is that there is nothing in tomato soup....that its boring … [Read more...]

How to Lay Vinyl Tiles over Plywood

What's a girl to do when she has a box of off colored vinyl self stick tiles and a nasty plywood floored laundry room? Floor the heck out out of it that's what. This room has been driving me bonkers for a long time. Like from the moment I first laid eyes on it. And it's the neglect room in the house because it needs to be ripped off the house and rebuilt entirely to do it right. When we moved in there were weird remnant pieces of drywall all over the walls which we ended up just … [Read more...]

How to Install Vinyl Tiles over Mastic

It's been a bit of a process trying to decide how to lay out self stick vinyl tiles over the old mastic adhesive that was coating the living room floor. Combined with being sick has taken its toll on our forward momentum a bit but we are back up and raring to get moving on this project. We took a look at a couple different ways of removing the old mastic. First up (this was ages ago) we tried fingernail polish remover. Basically we were looking at an Acetone base in our polish remover. It … [Read more...]
