Who said a picnic has to be lunch or dinner? Planning the perfect breakfast picnic is easy and so much fun to do while everyone is fresh and alert!
Picnics are one of the boys all time favorite family activities so this past weekend we packed up the family super quick and headed out to one of our favorite hiking areas….Smith Rocks State Park. Armed with a few grocery supplies and picnic bag…we had one of the most fun mornings in recent memory.
We took the essentials of course. Plenty of freshly brewed coffee.
Not too shabby of a place to drink your second cup of coffee in the morning! Our thermos kept it piping hot which I think is essential, nothing is worse than lukewarm coffee. Well…maybe not having any coffee might be worse I suppose haha!
We helped the kids down the steep decline down into the valley.
While the top of the park is quite dry, down near the river everything springs to life.
Before we headed out I had made a quick run into the grocery store and picked up some breakfast essentials: croissants, jam, fresh fruit, a few kinds of cheese (I chose a smoked Gouda and a creamy brie), a container of hummus, orange juice, and some trail mix.
We tucked the orange juice into our wine chiller ice pack and it worked AMAZING! The orange juice was perfectly icy cold and so refreshing!
After our short jaunt down into the valley, it was time for breakfast by the river.
We packed our unbreakable wine glasses with us too and they were perfect for the kids to have an icy glass of juice.
A simple breakfast was the perfect way to get out of the house quickly and out onto the trail!
I loved that everyone could make their own little combinations and we had plenty of snackable leftovers for the rest of the hike.
Don’t forget to tuck in a few cheese spreaders to your pack too, they make it easy and safe for little hands to help with breakfast.
We had the best Saturday morning yet and can’t wait to get back out and do it again!
P.S. If you have a bit more time to prep make a few of these recipes to tuck in your pack!
