Several weeks ago I was asked to join the review team for Dr. Harvey Karp’s new book “The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep“. With an 18 month old and one to be arriving here in just a few short weeks I jumped on the opportunity to read another sleep book. I am happy to report that it was an enjoyable read and one that I will be recommending in reference to this topic.
Some of you may know that we were greatly helped by and advocates of the controversial Baby Wise book by Gary Ezzo and Dr. Robert Bucknam. It really is a shame that so many people have gotten so worked up over that book because, taken with a grain of salt and applying it with discretion, it has helped many families including ours. It is easy though to get pulled into the CIO vs tear free method debate and so from this point on it will be my recommendation that people read both the Baby Wise book and The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep as a pair.
Specific Points
In this book I was pleased to see that Dr. Karp takes a broad view of “make it work for your child” and offers plenty of options to new parents of things to try. I found his suggestions for flexible scheduling to be particularly in line with how we feel, although I thought a little more

I don’t exactly remember where I first saw a link to Noah Sanders book Born-Again Dirt: Farming to the Glory of God, maybe Amazon or maybe a fellow gardening blog. But I was absolutely caught by the title and knew it was a must read.
Can I be honest? I also loved the fact that the authors name is Noah! Writing an email….Dear Noah….felt strange and cool all at the same time (for those of you who are new here our almost 1 year old son’s name is Noah.)
Turns out that I was right, Noah’s book is a gem and I highly recommend it to you.
The idea of farming to the glory of God is something that Kevin and I have actually spent a significant amount of time discussing and reading about already. With all the background study we have done I did wonder if there was much else that could be added to it, if we would disagree on points or if it would be completely different from what our talks had been about.
I am happy to say that it was a great mix of all of the above. I would say about 90% of the book is a very well written description of how we feel about the current farming community, what being a godly farmer is, and how to actually farm that way, and 10% are things we hadn’t considered and that we are still

Today I am so so excited to introduce you to one of my friends. Her name is Kyla and she just so happens to be the sister in law of Kevin’s childhood best friend Travis. Which makes us practically related. Oh and did I mention that she’s awesome? This photo of their cute little family is also awesome.
She has two of the cutest kids ever, Will and Hollyn, and she is super great about consistently putting up videos and pictures of them on Facebook so we can all share in their cuteness.
I however tend to be a miserable failure in this area so I totally admire and respect her for that. She also had her sweet little girl just two weeks before I had Noah….and she’d already done the whole baby thing once. So we commiserated on the lack of sleep, constant feedings and constant blow outs and she answered many a desperate Facebook status update when I had no idea what was going on with my child, nursing problems or my sanity.
So basically Kyla’s awesome. She’s super generous and sweet. She also happens to run Caught Up In Stitches where she make some of the cutest custom knitted hats I have seen.
Will rocking the red and black beenie.

Whoever coined the term “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” won the day on this little gem of a book. I have to be honest, when I got a stack of books in the mail a few weeks ago this one was not #1 on my list to read. It’s not very thick and the cover kind of confused me with the smoke wisps (which I later figured out were supposed to be part of the secretive vibe and a part of an entire Secrets series that Wiley Publishers produces). I decided to flip through all the books before choosing the review order and what I found inside of it not only pushed it to being the first book in the stack to get a review, but also has absolutely changed my life.
Maura Thomas is the author of Personal Productivity Secrets as well as a speaker, trainer and blogger at Regain Your Time.com. This is her first book and was just published this spring and I truly believe that she is going to have the next big organizing programs on par with Franklin-Covey, and the Getting Things Done systems.
Several months ago in complete despair at our house and my personal life I actually sat down and self diagnosed myself as having ADD. After talking it over with Kevin and going in for some prayer at our church (as we believe that ADD can have

After living with our Pragel counter top in Walnut from IKEA for a few months now (gasp has it really been that long?) we are happy to report that we absolutely hands down love them.
They are warm and rich feeling and capture that feeling of butcher block with 1000% less maintenance and worry. Cleaning them up is a snap with some plain Simple Green cleaner, wipe off the junk, swipe with cleaner and you are finished.
One thing that we found surprising when we got it out of the box is that there is texture in the surface. It actually has minor indentations to give it a bit more wood feel to it and I just love it. None of that cheesy wood paneling feel here. But in case that worries you, I make all my doughs on the countertop with plenty of flour and haven’t found it to be a problem getting the counter clean even with the bit of texture. If I get a ton of dough stuck to the counter and then forget about it so its a dry sticky mess, all I do is take a rag soaked in very hot water and leave it over the area for about 15 minutes. Wipes clean every time.
The seam is holding up very nicely as well with the wax that Doug put into it. I
