Summer is here! The smells and sounds of summer are some of my all time favorite. I grew up in the country and there is just nothing that compares to smell of fresh cut grass and the sound of rows of sprinklers tapping along while the frogs sing you to sleep.
As an adult summer means….friends! With our tiny house entertaining during the winter can be a challenge. We have fold out tables and chairs to pull it off but it’s a squeeze. Summer means stretching out outside where there is plenty of space to go around. And friends means….cocktails!
If there is anything you should know around here is that we may eat healthy a lot of the times but cocktails are a necessity of life. For this one we’ve partnered up with Nielsen-Massey to help introduce you to their Orange Blossom Water!

If you’ve never heard of Nielsen-Massey we definitely need to talk. They make THE most incredible vanillas and amazing flavors for using in baking and so much more. Their Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Bean Paste is MY LIFE. In case you need some recipes for that check out our Strawberry Lemon Coffee Cake, Slovenian Cream Cake and Sweet Potato Bars with Salted Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Frosting. In fact just go make that salted cream cheese frosting right now and eat all of it with this cocktail okay? Good work.
But back to today’s recipe. We are using their Orange Blossom Water which is incredible. I had only ever used it in baking (which adds this incredible aroma to baked goods). But I’ve fallen in love with it in orange blossom cocktails!
Orange blossom water is a water distillation of the blossoms of the bitter orange tree. It’s very common in Persian, Arabic, Indian and Turkish cuisines and adds a delightful orange perfume to sweet and savory dishes.
We’ve paired it here with a great mix of orange juice and lemonade (which turns out is delicious all on it’s own), toss in a splash of lime juice and orange blossom water to bump up the aromatics and add a bit of zing. And then add in some rum. I found rum that had coconut liqueur added to it hanging out in our cupboard and oh man…so good.
If you aren’t a coconut fan or just don’t want to go buy another bottle of booze you can totally use regular rum in here or even vodka would work in a pinch too. But if you can find it I do really love the combo of the orange blossom paired with the coconut. Yum!

Twirl an orange rind and put a pretty straw in it and you are good to go. Easy cocktail perfect for shaking up for yourself or for your next dinner party!
