Mongolian Beef Recipe

Mongolian beef recipe is so easy to make. We love being able to make our own Chinese food just the way we like it. We can make it sweeter or spicier depending on our moods or if the picky eaters are elsewhere for dinner.

Chinese Food Take Out

We love Chinese food for dinner, but let’s be real; eating out can be expensive, especially for a family of 5. That’s why I create a lot of Asian takeout recipes at home.

Some of our favorites are teriyaki chicken stir fry, spring roll rice bowls, and now, Mongolian Beef recipe.

What kind of beef do you use for Mongolian Beef?

Because this dish cooks so quickly, a lean cut of beef works best. We use beef sirloin in our Mongolian Beef recipe, but flank steak is another great cut to use.

Shopping Tip: Some butchers sell flank steak under the name, “London Broil”.

What vegetables are in Mongolian Beef?

Odd as it may seem, there are no veggies in Mongolian Beef! Strange, right? We usually garnish the dish with steamed carrots and green onions, simply to give the dish some color.
Another way to incorporate veggies into the meal is to serve Mongolian beef with fried rice, which typically has peas and carrots in it. Or you can serve it with a side of spring rolls or veggie egg rolls.

To keep the dish as healthy as possible, we serve it over brown rice. Another option is to serve it with noodles or plain white rice. To save some time, we cook our rice in an Instant Pot.
